6/25/17 - Day 15

This is our view from our campsite.

This is the view if you're willing to take a 5 minute walk from our campsite.

Notice anything?  Not a human soul as far as the eye can see.  And this is at 10AM!

Waking up to hammering and power sanding - not to mention the elaborate set-ups RV's had (we're talking plants, extensive tables and chairs, comforts for their pets - you get the idea) - made us think there are some people that live here full time rather than a stop for one or two night camping.  We would not recommend the Turtle Rock RV Resort for a road trip stop as it was a bit run down, and we would say that a nearby state park would be the way to go. That is if you can plan well enough in advance.  But it was a place to sleep, and I got a beach run in.  Just me and the turtle rock in my happy place.

We were excited to have a leisurely paced day so we started on the road.  We stopped at a used book store in Gold Beach and got some espresso (not the kids, although there was a sign in the store that said that unattended children would be given a double shot of espresso and a puppy!).  I left them unattended for a few in the hopes of a puppy, and it was on 11AM so I figured the espresso would wear off in time for bed.  Neither of those happened, though, so we moved on.

We headed further up 101 to see the lighthouse at Cape Blanco where we had heard the view was amazing.  This is what we saw...

Had it not been fogged in we would have had a beautiful at least 270 degree water view.  Maybe it's called Cape Blanco for a reason - it's white with fog!

We kept driving up 101, and I said, "You know what I need?  A cute town with a few shops we can wander around in."  And within about 30 seconds, bam!, we drove into a town called Bandon, which just so happened to be a cute town with some shops.  So we wandered around a bit in a sunny cute town.  Lilly bought herself a Grumpy Cat book, and at one point Henry wasn't paying attention and he walked right into a street light!  He was fine, though.

We were all a bit tired and on the cranky side.  I think maybe the excitement of Disneyland, all the driving, and the traffic (did I mention that?) over the last week have worn us out!  Some of us also seemed to be missing home a bit.  So we pushed our cranky selves on  to our next campsite in Sunset Bay State Park just south of Coos Bay. But not before a stop at the High Tide Cafe with some good old comfort food.

We checked in to our campsite around 7:30, and were relieved that it had lots of paved roads for Henry and Lilly to ride, very few mosquitos, and lots of trails, a beach, and a rose garden for us to check out tomorrow.  There is some talk of getting home on Thursday, but we will just have to see how the next few days  go.  Stay tuned!
